In the 1990 and 2000s the world seemed full of new destinations for curious travelling fly fisherman and almost every year or two a new destination or target species appeared on our radar. However, in recent years, despite being spoilt for choice with excellent well established fishing destinations worldwide, there have been relatively few new ‘discoveries’.

In February 2015 Alex and Nico Trochine made an exploratory trip to many rivers along the Chilean coast, after hearing rumours of massive king salmon colonising the area. Eventually, and after some trial and error, they found a river full of chrome kings from 25lb up to 50lb and above.

After further exploratory trips they operated a full season from early January to mid-March 2016. This was a huge success with the combination of stunning scenery and amazing fish proving irresistible to fly fishermen the world over.

With a total of eight fishermen per week, split between a lodge and camp and sharing 20 miles of river from the tidal water upstream there is a lot of fishing and you can hook a fish that is less than 24 hours in the river anywhere on the Austral Kings water.

We have now secured some rare spots for 2018 and Roddy Hall is hosting the week 12th to 19th February 2018 at the lodge. If you are interested in joining Roddy on this week, or fishing another week during the season, please do get in touch.

The cost for a week at the Lodge is US$5,950 plus transfers, flights and gratuities.
