Salmon fishing in Scotland is renowned the world over. Famous rivers, such as the Tweed, Tay and Spey, a sense of tradition, beautiful scenery and wonderful places to stay and visit make it the perfect destination for fishers and their families.
Farlows Travel offers premium salmon fishing in Scotland throughout the season. As each river is different we will recommend a selection of beats for you to choose from that are suitable for your preferred time of visit and any other factors, such as whether you are travelling with family, what type of accommodation you are looking for or if you would like to combine the trip with other activities such as golf or shooting.
This is a small selection of the rivers and beats that we recommend. All of these options can be made into a complete package with luxury accommodation, guides and transport but please note that these beats are often booked up well in advance by returning clients so availability can be limited at prime times.

Farlows Travel offers fishing on a number of Tay beats, including with the Scone Estate, and Stanley Fishings on beats such as Fishponds, Benchil, Luncarty, Catholes, Ballathie, and Pitlochrie.
Scone Estate fishing rotates on two beats known as ‘Fishponds’ and ‘Knowesbank’, which clients will fish on alternate days. The new Fishponds fishing bothy is situated mid-way between Knowesbank and Fishponds and provides all the facilities expected by anglers and their guests, including free wifi and a wood burning stove, offering comfort with idyllic views.
Stanley Fishings offers access to a number of beats including Benchil, Catholes, Pitlochrie, and Luncarty which fish well at different heights and at different times during the season. An experienced Head Ghillie is available at all times and fishing is done by boat and from the bank.
We can also arrange a number of local accommodation options to suit your preferences.
Check out this short film which introduces the various pools on Benchil, presented by Head Ghillie, Robert White.
The River Spey
Superbly situated in the Highlands of Scotland, Tulchan Estate provides the perfect setting for sport, leisure and relaxation. Spanning 26,000 acres, the estate offers some of the finest fishing on the majestic River Spey, alongside the region’s foremost shooting and stalking grounds.
Right at the heart of the estate is Tulchan Lodge, which offers guests unrivalled levels of comfort. Tulchan Water is renowned as one of the best stretches of fly water in Europe. Eight miles of river offers a rich variety of sport in the beautiful setting of Tulchan Estate. The four beats, each limited to six rods, are tended by the expert care of their own ghillie and on the banks, luxurious cabins provide rest and relaxation for fishermen, their families and non-fishing guests.
Careful management of the whole river system and its tributaries has ensured that Tulchan water continues to offer unforgettable fishing for both salmon and sea trout. Knowledgeable ghillies help ensure that experienced and novice fishermen alike make the most of their sport whilst the well-equipped fly room at the lodge provides the best in equipment.
The River Tweed
One of the great salmon rivers of the UK the Tweed flows east through the border region of Scotland and northern England. At nearly 100 miles long (not including some excellent tributaries) there is a huge variety of available fishing whatever the time of your visit and your budget. The river is one of the most productive in Scotland and also produces fish of a good average size.
This is a wonderful fly fishing river for both wading and boat fishing and has a season that runs from 1st February to 30th November. Easily accessible by road, rail or air, with exceptional hotels, golf courses and places of local interest, including Edinburgh, this is an ideal destination for serious fly fishermen who are looking for somewhere that will suit the whole family.
