Royal Zambezi Lodge is an intimate family-owned property situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River in Zambia, on the edge of the unique Lower Zambezi National Park and directly opposite Mana Pools. A five star safari lodge with experienced fly fishing guides and access to some of the best tigerfishing around make this an ideal way to combine a safari with some fishing.
Royal Zambezi Lodge was first used as a family fishing camp before being developed into the premium safari lodge it is today. However, it is still the go-to destination for many fly fishers targeting tigerfish in the Lower Zambezi and it has a strong fishing focus with experienced guides and four boats, suitable for two fishers each.
Tigerfish are a perfect species to target with a fly – they are aggressive, fight hard and are acrobatic jumpers and although they can grow to 30lb a fish of over 10lb is considered a specimen on the Lower Zambezi. They are open water predators and often found near the water surface, sunken trees and drop-offs from sandbars.
Tigers are targeted from a drifting boat with the fishermen casting towards structure along the banks, or trying in deep channels among islands in the middle of the river.
